Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced the opening of new research and development (R&D) centers in Taiwan, focusing on AI and silicon photonics technologies.
As part of a $270.5 million project, AMD has established new R&D centers in Tainan and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. These centers are dedicated to advancing the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and silicon photonics, key areas that are expected to drive the next wave of innovation in the tech industry.
The Taiwanese government has shown strong support for this initiative, providing a subsidy of 3.31 billion New Taiwan dollars to assist in the development of these cutting-edge technologies. This investment underscores AMD’s commitment to staying at the forefront of AI research and development, positioning the company as a leader in the field.
With these new centers, AMD is set to accelerate its innovation pipeline, potentially boosting its data center GPU revenue by $5 billion by 2024. This expansion not only highlights Taiwan’s growing role as a hub for tech innovation but also reinforces AMD’s strategic focus on AI as a critical component of its future growth.
